The most recent ice age has created a mountainous landscape with jagged peaks and large glaciers in Jotunheimen national park. The highest mountains in Norway are situated in this national park. During the spring and the winter the area is transformed into a first-class tour destination for skiing enthusiasts.

We will be staying at the Norwegian Mountain Touring Association's (DNT) mountain hut Fondsbu, which is 1065 m above sea level by the Gjende lake, and as such a modern centre for mountain activities. Fondsbu is well-known for its conveniently positioned location and its exquisite cuisine consisting of local dishes. This is a theme that has been well received by participants as all the food originates from local suppliers and producers.

We will be staying in double rooms at Fondsbu, which has all the modern conveniences from showers to a fully supplied bar!

The weekly programme will consist of guided day tours from Fondsbu to the surrounding peaks. Our goal is to carry out as many quality tours as the weather and snow conditions will allow. Some of the excellent tour destinations include Yranostind (2157m), Sagi (2040m), and Snöhölstind (2141m). During the week we will teach the basics of avalanche awareness. You will learn to make the right choices of route and analyses of snow layers and terrain.

The week is suitable for those who have some experience of mountain skis or telemark gear. Since we will be living safe and sound indoors no experience of winter camping is necessary. The week is an excellent introduction to outdoor life in the mountains during the winter season. There is a convenient bus connection to Fondsbu from Oslo. You take the bus to Tyin and continue the final journey to Fondsbu on the snow chain transportation vehicle provided by us
