Experience the Roaring Tides & Currents in a Safe Manner

Northern Wales
is a sea kayaking area that makes strong demands on the would-be paddler. During the course week you will develop your paddling technique so that you will be able to tackle strong tidal currents.

A Kayaking Mecca

In recent years, the seas around Wales have become renowned among sea kayakers all over the world. Kayaking films such as This is the Sea 1 & 2 and Sea Kayak Safety have been showcases for the area and its possibilities. Several of the most demanding kayaking sequences were shot in the waters around the Anglesey peninsula.

The currents can best be described as rapids in the sea. It’s precisely these qualities that make this area so different from anything in the Baltic Sea.

You can choose to attempt the currents while they’re at their weakest or alternatively tackle them as they surge towards you in an explosion of waves and foam. This is simply an adrenaline kick that has to be experienced to be believed.

This course, however, will provide you with all the required tools that you need in order to confront the untamed seas safely.

About the Course Programme

1. You will learn to apply theory and calculate the force and intervals of tidal currents.

2. We will show you the appropriate kayaking technique when tackling surging waters.

3.  We will perform rescue exercises and review all other safety demands.

4. However, most importantly and most enjoyably we will spend as much time as possible in the kayak. Our aim is that all the things we teach you will become automatic reflexes.

The aim of the course is for the participants to develop their paddling technique, and then be able to draw up their own plans and carry out a kayaking tour in the area with tidal currents.

In order to ensure the highest level of safety we will be working with one instructor for every three participants during the week.

Course instructor: Olly Sanders, Olly is a local instructor with a lengthy experience of the area.

Assistance course instructor: Roope Roine
