A Beginner’s Course in Sea Kayaking
You will learn all you need in order to safely negotiate waters in a sea kayak. No previous experience of sea kayaking is required. We will learn basic paddling techniques and strokes. A good technique means that we can master and use all the muscles of the body in for instance the back, stomach and arms. We will also learn to steer the kayak without the help of a rudder.
We will learn how to master the basics of navigation as well as thoroughly review the various rescue methods for saving yourself and successfully returning a capsized mate to their kayak.
The course is held on the island of Rosala, which is situated west of Helsinki. There is a direct bus connection to Helsinki that takes two hours from Helsinki. The idyllic archipelago village of Rosala is a perfect setting for the course. We have the opportunity to paddle in both the protected inner archipelago and the fantastic outer archipelago. This will give the optimal classroom in which to perfect our skills. We can hone our newly acquired skills under safe guidance in various wind and sea conditions
