Let us walk across the Nordic Rooftop
The natural surroundings in the western part of the Jotunheimen National park are the most alpine you will find in the Nordic countries. Here you'll encounter high mountain peaks and steep precipices that lie on the borders of the wild glaciers. Notable cultural figures such as Grieg, Ibsen and Krogh have made the pilgrimage to Jotunheimen to be inspired by its beauty. We will embark on a five-day trek through this labyrinth of wondrous mountain peaks.
The legendary Fondsbu
The tour will proceed from glaciers to mountain peaks with an altitude of over 2000 metres. We will meet at Fondsbu mountain cabin and spend two nights in tents. The cabin is an oasis which combines good food and a pleasant atmosphere. Here you can enjoy delicious dinners or alternatively prepare your own food. Shower facilities are available at the cabin.
An experience for all
The week will start with two one-day trips from our base camp. One of the tours will take us to the 2157 metre peak of Uranostind, which we will reach after a trek across the glacier. We'll be equipped with crampons, a harness and joined with ropes in order to safely cross the snow-covered area with its crevasses.
This tour is not particularly difficult in a technical sense and is thus suitable for participants with no previous experience of walking across glaciers. The next day we will ascend and reach the 2075 metre peak of Galdbergstinden with its awe-inspiring and panoramic view.
The heartbeat of nature
In the evening we will pack for a three-day tour exploring the western parts of the national park.
When we have conquered one or two of the mountain peaks, we will return to Fondsbu and will then hopefully be able concur with the words of the Norwegian poet Aasmund Olavsson Vinje:
"Eg høyrer som naturens store og friske glade hjarteslag"
"I am one with the vast and immaculately joyous heartbeat of nature "(Eng. translation)
You can conveniently reach the Fondsbu mountain cabin by a direct bus connection from Oslo to Tyinkrysset, a journey which takes around five hours. We will provide car transportation from Tyinkrysset and back when the tour is completed.
